How to Remove iOS 16 Beta Profile. The iOS and watchOS beta program is over. With the release of iOS 16, watchOS 9, and tvOS 16 yesterday, the time has come to remove or abandon Apple’s beta program. If your plan was just to go all the way to public release, you should do it now before you get “caught” by the new wave of betas. How to remove or quit the iOS 16 beta program.
iOS 16 Beta Profile Release Date: June 13
What happens if you don’t quit the beta
In principle, nothing happens. Your device now has the latest version available, which is the same as the one released yesterday. You won’t have an extra helping of bugs or errors. The problem comes when Apple decides to launch a new beta, say iOS 16.0.1, and it installs you on an iPhone without realizing it.
The moment your iPhone makes a backup with this new version, you will not be able to restore it to the public version of iOS. You will have to install the device from scratch, with the possible loss of data that it surely implies.
If this happens to you and you don’t want to lose data, the only solution is to continue in the beta patiently until Apple releases the public version. Luckily, there is a way around this: deleting Apple’s beta profile.
How to delete iOS 16 beta profile
If you remember when you installed the developer beta or the public version, back in the middle of summer, you had to incorporate a profile in the settings of your device. This profile is your device’s way of telling Apple that it participates in the beta program and that, therefore, it can receive this type of software for testing.
Therefore, to quit Apple’s beta program and avoid the problem we mentioned earlier, you will need to delete this beta profile. Follow these steps:
- Go to Settings> General> Profile on your iPhone or iPad.
- Access the profile called “iOS 16 Beta Software Profile“, you will see a menu like the upper screenshot.
- Hit the “Delete profile” button. The system will ask you for confirmation and will delete it when you accept.
- Restart the device.
You can also follow these same steps to delete the watchOS 5 beta, by going to the settings within the Watch app on your iPhone. If you are still in Apple’s beta program and don’t plan on continuing, quit right now. It doesn’t take more than a minute and you will save yourself future headaches.
Knowing Apple, it would not be strange that this week it released the beta of iOS16.0.1.
